NYFW Street Style

There’s no question about it: the runways streets surrounding Lincoln Center are just as important as the runways within during New York Fashion Week.  So while you’re waiting for the PTSC’s presentation of our favourite designer collections, I’m going to tide you over with some street style shots.  Each season there are trends that are more represented than others among the sidewalk’s most fashionable, so I’ve broken down my favourite looks into what I identify as the major street style trends this time around.

All-black

Black is always in style, so show-goers know it’s a safe bet to dress head-to-toe in the slimming hue.  What gives these monochromatic dressers the A+ and photog-worthy look is their play with proportion, texture, and opaqueness.  Sunglasses are a must with this look because clearly if you’re too serious and cool to dress in anything but black, you are too cool to let people look you in the eye.

Neutrals

Just because you don’t want to dress like a teenage witch from The Craft  a serious fashion person in all-black does not mean you have to embrace colours and patterns.  These ladies prove that neutrals from the lighter side of the spectrum can be just as cool as black, especially when you mix and match.

Bright Pops

Pops of colour, especially on the bottom half, are a fun way that street style stars brighten up their ensembles.  It’s an easy way to stand out (translation: photographer bait, increasing chances they will appear on any of a slew of street style blogs…or, you know, this one).

Floral Suiting

Floral suits are going to be the It thing for Spring 2012, so of course the stylish set at NYFW have to go and start wearing it two months early.  And yes, that is Vancouver blogger Niki Blasina on the right.

Sigh.  If only I were so stylish.

Much love, Madison Blake
