A little love for 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2014

I’m not usually one to get all warm and fuzzy over resort collections. After all, the concept is a little foreign to the average citizen: an entire collection dedicated to your yearly vacation requires a stretch of the imagination, although it is fun to fantasize that this could be your reality. I did show a little love for Stella McCartney’s resort presentation, and after seeing a photo of Diane Kruger in a 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2014 dress, I’m starting to wonder if maybe designers’ attitudes towards this in-between-seasons season has shifted.

Phillip Lim’s sporty resort collection doesn’t scream St Tropez getaway; rather, it reminds me of young women hanging out on the weekend or after work on those days where it’s somewhere in between summer and fall. Like…mid-September dressing. Or July if you live in a temperate climate.

I’m particularly drawn to this collection as my style has gradually shifted over the past couple of years to a more relaxed silhouette. Where I used to be all nipped waists and A-line skirts, I’m now finding myself living in drop-crotch trousers and “Aladdin pants,” as my sister calls them (in fact, I got a pair of faux leather pants from Zara a few months ago that look eerily identical to those pictured above). There’s not a skinny pant in sight from Phillip Lim in this resort collection.

The perforated dresses are perfect summer pieces that are wearable in multiple seasons. I expect to see a Zara interpretation before the summer is through. Not pictured (but you can see the whole collection on Style.com) is the backpack version of Lim’s wildly popular Pashli bag. With the rise of the backpack over the past year, it seems like a logical move for Lim to branch out into that territory. After all, it’s really hard to Instagram while holding a clutch.

The metallic pieces are another great multi-season item you could dress up or down depending on the occasion. As Matthew Schneier wrote in his review, this “Resort collection as one to wear as you play while you work, or work while you play…[because] the modern woman, Lim reasons, combines both.”

What do you think? Are you as into this resort situation as I am?

Have a great Wednesday!

Much love, Madison Blake
